John Lewis a Civil Rights Icon Passes Away

John Lewis dedicated his life to service from civil rights to serving in the House for the state of Georgia since the 80's.  During a time when their was a real struggle for civil rights in the Black Community, Lewis was a champion for the cause.  He was a Freedom Rider and the last surviving member of the "Big Six" organizer and speaker at the March on Washington where Martin Luther King gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech.
Yesterday John Lewis's body was driven over the Edmund Pettus Bridge where "Bloody Sunday" happened when police attacked protesters 55 years ago who were marching to Selma, Alabama.
John Lewis's life is a testimony of what Black America should aspire to.  As a young man in the 60's he lived the civil rights struggle.

First Pitch by Dr. Fauci - Yankees vs Nationals tonight on ESPN at 7pm EST

Dr. Fauci one of America's leading doctors concerning an infectious disease Covid-19, is throwing the first pitch in tonight's MLB game: The New York Yankees vs. The Washington Nationals in Washington DC.  A lot of people have been talking about this and how it will go over since it will be played with no fans. Today is opening day and we will see.
No slight to Dr. Fauci, but I wonder with the protests and Black Lives Matter would major league baseball ever let one of their founders throw out the pitch or someone like Derrick Johnson president of the NAACP?  Has Jesse Jackson ever thrown out a first pitch?  Just curious.  I did some research and the answer is yes.  Jesse Jackson threw out the first pitch on April 6, 2013 between the Chicago Cubs vs. Texas Rangers.  Rep. John Lewis who recently passed away threw it at Washington Nationals game back in April 2018.
I caught the first pitch and Dr. Fauci threw it to the far right of the catcher.  No biggie we know why he was there a…

Movie Review: Queen and Slim

Queen and Slim is a really good movie so good that it is my favorite right now.  It is a love story / drama with them on the run.  What makes it good and no offense to anyone is the hero and heroine are both dark skinned Blacks or African Americans.  That is not always the case with the Black female star.  During their flight from the law the two got to know each other.  They ask each what they wanted in a relationship.  The movie touched on today's protests against police brutality.  I think this movie is a classic and it ranks up there with the movies Love and Basketball, The Wood, and Brown Sugar.

How Covid-19 has affected me

I'm 49 years old about to turn 50 in December 2020 and I am in good health.  I live in Richmond, Virginia. I don't have Covid-19 and I pray that I never get it.  I am an artist and writer and started Back Talk a few days ago.  I am renting a room in a care home called Achilles Healing House.  Over a few months ago one of the ladies that run this home tested positive for Covid-19.  She only worked here part time because she has a full time job.  Richmond Community Hospital down the street would not test us because we weren't showing any symptoms and my primary care doctor's office does not test patients.  They called me and recommended 3 facilities that perform the tests but I never went.  I'm not showing any symptoms.
I just called my brother last night and he told me one of our friends had died from Covid-19 and that he, my brother, felt that a lot of Black people are not taking the disease seriously. Fortunately I have not run into any other problems there is a gr…

Kanye West wants to be President

Kanye West, who has stated before that he wants to run for President, actually started his presidential bid when he gave a speech this week.  He broke down when he got on the subject of abortion when he talked about how his father wanted to abort him and then the fact that he did not want to have North and that Kim his wife stood up to him and said, "We are going to have this baby."
West said that racist people stated that he would help Trump by splitting the Black vote.  I personally do not think that Kanye West is qualified to be President.  Unless they have changed, use to be you could not get a Top Secret clearance if you had a mental illness.
Also West has stated that Kim and her mother Kris Jenner wanted to "lock him up" because of his mental illness.
There is nothing wrong with having a dream and I don't blame him for trying but to breakdown at a campaign rally is not good.

Donald Trump says wearing a mask is patriotic now

CNN has been reporting Donald Trump wearing a mask and saying it is patriotic now.  Before he felt like the people that were against him were wearing those masks in defiance of him and the federal government.  A simple act like wearing a mask as doctors advise to help us fight this pandemic and there is so much discord from him and his supporters.
Donald Trump must feel invincible since he is President of the United States and has so much Secret Service protection.  The President of Brazil thought like him, but recently reported that he had the Corona Virus.
No one wants to see anyone get that disease.  I wish that on no one.  President Trump has restarted his Corona Virus Task Forces briefings.  Yes we can site him for taking so long to come around but we should not condemn him for it.

Black Lives Matter has come into its own

A few years back when the Black Lives Matter movement came about during the Trayvon shooting, and Fergueson and etc I don't think it was embraced as it is now.  I think White America felt hesitant to embrace it because I think they felt "left out" or excluded in the protests somehow.  You would hear the phrase All Lives Matter.  Hillary Clinton used it during one of the debates.
Eric Garner died uttering the phrase, "I can't breathe."  When the officer had a choke hold on him for selling loosies (individual cigarettes).  This was definitely a case of excessive force
Fast forward to now with George Floyd died saying I can't breathe when a White officer pressed his knee into Floyd's neck for eight minutes.  That awoke everyone, well almost.  This case went world wide even during a pandemic.  People of all colors risked their lives protesting.  Those Black Lives Matter signs were everywhere as well as "I can't breathe."  Even in Europe.
